The PM172 is a panel-mounted energy meter for low-voltage distribution systems requiring accurate measurement and integration into existing control infrastructure. It provides electrical parameter monitoring and revenue-grade energy metering, with harmonic analysis available in the EH version, in a format suitable for switchboard installation.
It is intended for continuous operation in industrial and utility environments, with communications options supporting integration into SCADA and automation systems.
Accuracy in accordance with IEC 62053-22 (Class 0.2S)The SATEC PM172 energy meter provides measurement of line-to-line and line-to-neutral voltages, phase and neutral currents, active, reactive and apparent power (per phase and total), power factor and system frequency. Voltage inputs are connected directly, with current measurement via external current transformers (CTs) according to the configured ratios.
The PM172 supports import and export kWh and kvarh registers, present demand and configurable demand intervals based on user-defined integration periods. These functions enable revenue-grade submetering and internal energy allocation within industrial LV systems.
The PM172EH version provides individual harmonic components up to the 50th order, Total Harmonic Distortion (THD) and waveform capture. Harmonic values are available per phase for distortion assessment in low-voltage distribution networks.
The PM172 exceeds ANSI C12.20 Class 0.2 requirements and complies with IEC 62053-22 Class 0.2S.
Scaling is configurable via CT and PT ratios, allowing the meter to be applied across a wide range of primary system ratings.
Real-time measurements are updated at one-second intervals.
The declared accuracy makes the instrument suitable for revenue-grade submetering in industrial and commercial installations.
Communications and Integration
The SATEC PM172 supports serial and industrial communication protocols for integration into existing control systems.
Communication uses defined register maps and structured data formats for integration into PLC, SCADA and energy management systems.
The PM172 provides event logs, data logs and, in the EH version, waveform logs.
Time synchronisation is supported for alignment with supervisory systems and plant time references.
The PM172 is available in external CT configurations including PM17x-HACS and PM17x-RS5 variants.
The PM17x-HACS version supports high accuracy external current sensors rated up to 1200A. The PM17x-RS5 version is designed for 5A secondary current transformers (nominal 5A, maximum 10A).
CT ratings from 100A to 1200A are available depending on the selected sensor type.
CT primary current must be configured within the device setup. For HACS split-core models, transformer correction parameters (ratio and phase angle) are entered according to the values provided with the sensor.
Only CTs supplied by SATEC may be used in order to maintain declared measurement accuracy.
For installations requiring remote display or distributed measurement, the PM172 supports the following options:
These options allow separation of measurement and display functions where panel layout or space constraints require it.
