Hitec Instruments has launched RTR (Real-Time Recorder), a new generation software platform designed to help energy projects capture, process and deliver meter data faster, more reliably and with better precision.
Modern grid operations require a different level of speed, visibility and coordination. The tools that shaped the industry — reliable, established, widely deployed — were designed for a different grid.
Today’s grid is different. Battery storage, solar, EV charging and hybrid systems operate at speeds where every millisecond of data matters. Dynamic Containment, FCAS and G99 compliance don’t leave room for slow polling, patchy records or integration delays.
RTR is built for exactly that environment — a platform designed from the ground up for the speed, precision and flexibility that modern energy projects demand.

What makes RTR a new generation platform
The UK energy transition is accelerating. Previous generations of monitoring software treated the meter as an endpoint — a device to query on a schedule. RTR treats it as a live data source. It sits between metering devices and downstream systems such as SCADA, databases, APIs and cloud environments, acting as a dedicated intelligence layer that keeps information moving quickly and with far greater resolution.
The difference this makes is significant. Where conventional tools often work at 1 to 5-second intervals — leaving gaps precisely when grid events are most critical — RTR polls down to 10 ms. That is up to 500 times faster than standard SCADA polling. Ten configurable intervals are available: 10, 20, 40, 50, 80, 100, 200, 400, 500 and 1000 ms, giving operators the flexibility to match data resolution to the exact demands of each application. Combined with continuous waveform capture and flexible output to virtually any downstream system, RTR gives energy teams a level of visibility that simply was not accessible before without premium hardware or bespoke integrations.
It is also designed to last. Lightweight enough to run continuously on embedded hardware, stable enough for unattended 24/7 deployment and compatible across Windows and Linux on both x86 and ARM architectures — RTR is built for the long operational cycles that energy infrastructure demands.
A stronger proposition for specifiers and integrators
For SATEC agents, system integrators and project developers, RTR changes what you can offer the market. By ensuring that the meter’s full capability is realised on site — from high-resolution polling to bidirectional Modbus control — RTR strengthens the hardware specification, simplifies commissioning and raises the overall quality of the delivered system.
It also opens up advanced grid services that would otherwise require more expensive or less flexible platforms. In projects where performance and compliance are key buying criteria, that is a clear and tangible commercial advantage.
RTR is available now. Hitec Instruments offers software-only licensing, support packages, pre-configured hardware bundles and bespoke integration services to suit different project types and deployment needs.
